Part of my job is to monitor the growth and performance of the sites I have created. For those of you who don’t know, http://www.Alexa.com is a great and well known tool for monitoring many aspects of site performance. I would say that Alexa’s tools are almost right up there with Google. So needless to say, it’s important to know how Alexa is seeing your sites.
Womens-Health.com initially started out (when it transferred ownership) with an Alexa rank 950,000 which is still pretty good in their standards. From April 2006 to September 2006, our Alexa rank jumped to 409,221!!! That is HUGE!
Keep in mind, the smaller the number, the better your standing is. For example, MSN.com has a rank of 2 in comparison with FordMotors.com whom has a rank of 3,430,946. These ranks are calculated by how much traffic your site is getting and your in/outbound links to the site. It’s very similar to Google ranking.
This site, JessicaBynon.com had a rank of 4,312,443 this past July (just after I launched the redesigned version). It has climbed to a current rank of 886,567! For a web design site, that is pretty good. Most web design sites do not even rank on Alexa at all.
So all in all, I must be doing something right! I am anxious to see just how high these sites will get!
